Professor, Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine
A member of the Dows faculty since 1975, Dr. Squier received his
Bachelors and Master of Science degrees from Cambridge University and his
Doctor
of Philosophy in cell biology at the University of London, United Kingdom.
In
1985, Dr. Squier received the Doctor of Science degree from the University
of
London in recognition of contributions to his field of study. Dr.
Squier's
major research interest is the permeability of skin and oral mucosa to
exogenous
substances, including alcohol and tobacco, and drug delivery. He heads the
Oral
Soft Tissue Research Program and directs the institutional Dentist
Scientist
Program and the Center for Oral Mucosal Disease in Aging.
He has served as an editor of the journal, Archives of Oral Biology,
as a
member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Periodontal Research and
the
Journal of Oral Pathology, and as a director of the American Association
for
Dental Research. Dr. Squier is a member of the American and International
Associations for Dental Research, the International Association of Oral
Pathologists, and a director of the Iowa division of the American Cancer
Society. He is a diplomat of the Royal Microscopical Society and a Fellow
of
the Royal College of Pathologists, London.
Dr. Squier is Associate Dean for Research in the College of Dentistry
and
heads the Oral Soft Tissue Research Program.
