There are a variety of oral soft tissue diseases not directly related to the teeth. These include a wide range of conditions such as: canker sores, fever blisters, and yeast infections as well as chronic conditions such as lichen planus. Enlargements or growths may be associated with the salivary glands or other structures below the surface of the oral soft tissue. Many of these will be benign (less serious). In some cases, however, growths in the oral cavity may be reflect more serious disease such as cancer.
A typical visit or series of visits will include the following: a comprehensive history, physical examination of the head and neck, and may include radiographs, biopsy, and laboratory studies. After a diagnosis is established appropriate treatment will follow.
Fees will depend on the treatment required. Diagnosis and treatment for oral soft tissue problems is covered by most medical insurance.
