Indwelling Venous Catheter

This case is a 13 year old white male with granulomatous bowel disease who has required an indwelling central catheter for nutritional support for the last 6 months. His chest x-ray was otherwise normal. He has complained of chronic dyspnea on exertion and cough without sputum production.

A chest CT revealed calcified clots in both pulmonary arteries. The mediastinal windows of the same study showed a calcified clot at the end of the catheter.

Case Assessment
This 13 year old with granulomatous bowel disease and a long term indwelling catheter presented with mild exertion dyspnea.

The source of this persons clots was the indwelling catheter.
