Comments: While I agree that cellulitis is often a moderate to severe disease process with associated systemic problems necessitating intravenous antibiotics, it may also be localized and self-contained. Outpatient treatment with oral antibiotics (similar to the antibiotics listed for Impetigo) as may also be an appropriate treatment. Close observation and appropriate followup is important if outpatient treatment is chosen. This site has a good, brief description of cellulitis, its complications and associated skin diseases.
