Purpose
The purpose of this project is to identify for providers and patients
quality World-Wide Web sites that are related to common medical
conditions in men, women, and children.
Methods
50 common medical conditions affecting men, women, and children were
identified from Medicare and Medicaid data, hospital clinic and
inpatient censuses, and common sense. Quality World-Wide Web sites
relating to each condition were identified by a senior medical
student. The sites were then reviewed by University of Iowa College
of Medicine faculty. Sites that the faculty approved of are listed on
these pages.
Criteria for Choosing Sites
- The information must come from a World-Wide Web site created
by a state or national or international health agency,
professional health care society, non-profit consumer health
organization, health sciences institution, or patient advocacy
group. This should ensure that the information is authoratative,
up-to-date, and long lived.
- The World-Wide Web site must be free to use.
- The World-Wide Web site's information must be in Hypertext
Markup Language Format (HTML) so that it can be read by users with
the lowest common denominator World-Wide Web browser.
