The program will lead to certification in a dental clinical specialty and to the Doctor of Philosophy degree in a basic science. Dental specialty training is available in ADA-accredited programs in Endodontics, Oral Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, Public Health Dentistry, and Prosthetic Dentistry. Advanced clinical training is also available in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral Medicine and Operative Dentistry. The basic sciences in which a Ph.D degree can be awarded include Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biology, Biomaterials Science, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Oral Science, Physiology and Biophysics, Pharmacology, Psychology, Radiation Biology, and Speech Pathology and Audiology. Applicants must meet requirements established for this program by NIDR. Two positions will be available starting July 1, 1997 with remuneration from $26,500 rising annually to $30,500 for new graduates; starting levels may be higher for trainees with postgraduate experience. Support for tuition, travel, and research supplies is also available.
Applications will be received until September 15, 1996, with notification of acceptance on or after November 1, 1996, for the program starting July 1997. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
