1917 Dentistry moves into new building.
1918 United States enters World War I in
April. Influenza epidemic at its worst in Iowa City in October.
1919 Enrollment overload in the College of Dentistry begins.
1922 Gies committee visits Iowa campus.
1932 Fiftieth anniversary of the College. A.W. Bryan becomes dean
(1932-1952). University salaries cut 5 percent and enrollment drops due to
the Great Depression.
1941 Japan attacks Pearl Harbor; U.S. enters World War II.
1942 Accelerated schedule in College of Dentistry; new class enrolled
every nine months.
1945 World War II ends.
1952 W.O. Simon becomes dean (1952-1961).
1953 Dental Hygiene Department is founded.
1961 George Easton becomes dean (1961-1966).
1962 Dental Achievement Fund initiated.
1966 Donald J. Galagan becomes dean (1966-1973).
1973 College moves into the Dental Science
Building.
