Electric Lincoln Elementary
Lincoln students are fortunate to have parents and teachers who are willing to be involved with a wide range of activities beyond the classroom.
Scouting at Lincoln
by Danny S.
Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts are both fun and educational. They are lots of fun. These are two organizations at Lincoln Elementary School.
Cub Scout 252
is organized at Lincoln School and is for boys from first to fifth grades. At the meetings you play games, receive awards and once every year you get to do a Pine-Wood Derby. To raise money for the Pack, they sell popcorn. They also do something called Scouting for Food in which they collect food and give it to needy people. This is the Cub Scout Promise.
Girl Scout Troop 2183
is a troop organized at Lincoln School. At their meetings, they work on badges and talk about up-coming events. The Girl Scouts aren't allowed to raise money for their own troop, so the money gets sent to the Girl Scout Headquarters. To raise this money, they sell Girl Scout cookies. This is their promise.
Club West Basketball
by Andrew C.
Club West Basketball is an organization for boys and girls to play basketball and teach them to work as a team.
Lincoln started participating in Club West at the same time as the other west side schools and since then, the kids' parents have volunteered to be the coaches for the teams.
Ann Murray originally founded Club West Basketball along with Ernie Galer and Jim Mitchell about seven years ago. At the beginning the seven schools only had about 100 kids participating so school teams had to merge with each other. Now there are over 240 kids and almost all of the schools have their own teams.
Club West gives kids a chance to play basketball at a young age and let kids get to know kids from other schools.
Lincoln Safety Patrol
by Sam G.
The Lincoln School Safety Patrol is a group of hard-working, time-giving, devoted students. Any fifth or sixth grade student can join safety patrol. Patrol is agroup that is dedicated to the safety of our classmates. We help children cross the street safely. We also help kindergarten get to and from the parent pick-up area. We have meetings once a month and parties too.
Safety patrol used to be for sixth grade students only. When Mrs. Stein came to Lincoln, it was changed so fifth and sixth grade students could be members.
Safety patrol has been around a long time. It has always been associated with AAA. They used to use cloth belts
but now we use a vinyl material belt.
The belt is a bright orange with a silver badge. Officers' badges may be a different color.
Here at Lincoln, we have two posts and two kindergarten times. At the end of the year, we have a "Make your own Sundae Party" to thank everyone for their hard work.
Student Council
by Jared C.
Student Council started when a teacher named Mrs. Ayres was here at Lincoln about fifteen years ago. Student Council is a service oriented organization which helps Lincoln School and our community. Two teachers always assist the sixteen elected students who make up the Student Council.
Mrs. Naughton and Mr. Ritter are the two current teachers who help the Student Council.
Both enjoy the teacher raffle project that supports the Media Center. Teachers donate something to the raffle, like a pizza lunch, a game, a movie ticket, or a day as principal, which are then raffled off.
Several years ago, the Student Council purchased a special art piece for our school. Students met with Mr. Richard Pienny who made the Lincoln sculpture that is in the front hall.
He also made the Kennedy family a sculpture!
The Student Council's three big activities each year are the Food Drive, the Teacher Raffle, and the support through donations to the Raptor Center and the PTO.
In 1986-87, Student Council donated a big school picture
and the sculpture.
Past activities that students have enjoyed are selling popcorn and donut holes, Student Council breakfasts, and tee-shirt and sweatshirt design contests. Student Council has meetings
once a week during lunch to plan activities. They also sell pencils and erasers to earn money.
