The annotated list below is an attempt to classify the contents of the Providers section of the Virtual Hospital by the authors' medical specialty. The annotations and medical subject headings (MeSH) provide an indication of the scope of each entry, while links by material type lead to items of similar format. Duplicate entries may be found in the specialty lists if they were collaborative efforts or if their contents span multiple specialties.

The Human Brain: A Photographic Guide.

This anatomic atlas displays the essential anatomy of the human central nervous system. Photographs depict the actual structure of the brain and spinal cord and their immediate coverings. Most of the preparations appear unstained as the anatomist displays them in a series of dissections. Each photograph is accompanied by a labeled drawing and descriptive text to help the reader in interpreting the salient points. Includes a bibliography.

American Thoracic Society Unknown Cases.

A series of pulmonary case studies (also called patient simulations) prepared for the ATS Scientific Meeting, May 15, 1996. A short description of presentation is accompanied by imaging (radiographs, CT). Conference participants were invited to submit a diagnosis based on the case presentation via e-mail prior to the meeting, with results revealed at the conference. Subsequently developed into three Continuing Medical Education (CME) modules, with the availability of online tests.

Lung Tumors: A Multidisciplinary Database.

Lung Tumors: A Multidisciplinary Database.

This multimedia textbook is a database designed to assist in the proper work-up of patients with undiagnosed chest masses. It is an outgrowth of the multidisciplinary approach to the care of lung cancer patients that is used at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. It provides case studies categorized by pathologic type, stages, and syndromes, as well as by the diagnostic and surgical procedures that were applied. Case studies provide history, lab results, and imaging used in the diagnosis.
