9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday; 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday - Sunday

Established in 1932, the Patients' Library serves patients, visitors, and staff members of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The mission of the Patients' Library is to provide patients and visitors with materials for their recreation, education, and therapy. A secondary mission is to provide staff members with recreational materials. To accomplish these goals the library has a variety of recreation materials and houses the Health Information Center.

Recreational Materials
The Patients' Library offers materials for both adults and children:

• Books
• Books on Tape
• Magazines
• Audiotapes and Tape Players
• Radios
• Children's Books and Tapes
• Movies
• VCRs
• Nintendo Games (for patients 18 and younger)
• Large Print Items
• Income Tax Forms (Federal/Iowa January 1 - April 30)
• Photocopy Service (Monday - Friday, 10 cents a page)
• Stickers and Bookmarks
• Children's Storyhour (Every Wednesday Morning at 10:30)

The Health Information Center includes:

• Books (for both adults and children)
• Books on Tape
• Videotapes
• Magazines/Newsletters
• Future plans
  • Health Reference Center (a full-text database containing over 300 consumer health related magazines, journals, and newsletters)
  • Access to Hardin Library's Healthnet (contains MEDLINE, CINAHL, HEALTH, and CANCERLIT)
  • Internet Access
